About Denise Peat
Home for me is on beautiful Vancouver Island, where there is no shortage of inspiration! I've always had an artistic flair and a love for art as far back as I can remember, sketching, drawing and crafting, always encouraged to create by my parents who saw potential and the pleasure that it gave me. I began painting in 2009 after taking a handful of lessons from a talented local artist and have never looked back! I consider myself self taught and enoy painting and creating for both fun and relaxation.
I have been especially drawn to impressionistic and contemporary styles for the freedom it allows me to paint what I feel in the moment, in my selection of colour combinations, patterns, light and movement. Working primarily in acrylics, painting large seascapes, florals and portraits, but never limiting myself on the subject matter I choose to paint, since inspiration can materialize in unexpected ways. By incorporating mixed media into my paintings I'm able to create interesting and rich textures and layers to reflect emotion and feeling onto my canvas.
My artworks can be found in the collections of art lovers in Canada, the United States, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Collectors include acclaimed Grammy-nominated reggae legend Pato Banton. My art was featured in Women in Art 278 Magazine, which showcases women artists from around the world.
